Session

The Internet-connected Location Future

Sam Altman, Co-founder and CEO, loopt

Date: Wednesday, May 30
Time: 11:15am - 11:20am
Location: Imperial Ballroom

The world’s most frequent text message is “Where R U?”. The convergence of location based technologies, high speed wireless networks, and a growing consumer appetite for all things mobile opens the door for social mapping services that address this profound and fundamental question in a whole new way.

While the question is simple, building a service that answers that question in a meaningful and safe manner is not trivial. How do you provide a useful, intuitive user experience under the constraints of the small screen? How do you address all the many important safety and security issues in a responsible yet consumer-friendly way? What are the barriers to success? What does the industry as a whole need to do to drive mass adoption of these types of mobile services?

This talk will take a look at how the fundamental question of “Where R U?” can be answered in a way that benefits consumers, developers, and wireless operators.
