Building Linux Wireless LAN Clients and Access Points on Laptops, Workstations, Servers and Embedded

Who Should Attend:
Linux network users, administrators, and programmers with a
background in TCP/IP, experience in configuring Linux networking, and
building/installing the Linux kernel.
In the first section of this tutorial you will get an overview of the
IEEE 802.11 standard for Wireless LANs and a brief introduction to
the Linux PCMCIA card services (pcmcia-cs) subsystem. Next we will
cover the contents and installation of the linux-wlan package on
'client' stations. You will see the differences encountered when
installing the software for Access Point operation. Additionally,
there will be demonstrations of the linux-wlan Access Point software
running on a variety of hardware.

- The architecture and operation of the IEEE 802.11 standard
- Common devices available that are compliant with this standard
- Introduction to the behavior and configuration of Linux PCMCIA
- Wireless LAN network design
- Common pitfalls encountered when installing/configuring the
linux-wlan package
- Using tools in the linux-wlan package and other packages to test
and evaluate the behavior of a Wireless LAN.
- Configuration changes necessary to enable Access Point
functionality with the linux-wlan package
- Functionality of Wireless LAN Access Point
- Access Point vs. a station
- Packet forwarding, bridge or route?
- How stations roam from one Access Point to another
- Types Linux computers can be used to build Access Points?
