Eric
Allman
Eric Allman was the original author of sendmail and continues to lead
sendmail.org, the worldwide team of volunteers that maintains and supports
the Open Sourceh product. He was the Chief Programmer on the INGRES
database management project and an early contributor to Berkeley UNIX,
authoring syslog, tset, the trof-me macros, and trek, in addition to
Sendmail. He received a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from
University of California at Berkeley in 1980. He was a principal designer
of the first commercial client/server implementation and of database user
and application interfaces at Britton Lee, Inc. (later Sharebase). Mr.
Allman developed a first-generation window system through beta-level
production at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis. He
contributed to the Ring Array Processor Project for neural-network-based
speech recognition at the International Computer Science Institute. Mr.
Allman was also Chief Technical Officer at InReference, Inc., a web-based
search engine start-up. He co-authored the "C Advisor" column for UNIX
Review magazine for several years and is a former member of the Board of
Directors of USENIX Association.
