ActiveState is announcing the winners of their second annual Programmers' Choice and Activators' Choice Awards at the O'Reilly Open Source Conference. The awards honor the unsung heroes who *actively* contribute to open languages and display excellence in their programming efforts. This year we're expanding the categories to include each of our key technologies: Perl, PHP, Python, Tcl, and XSLT. Find out the deserving winners at the awards ceremony on Tuesday night, July 23.

Back by popular demand! The Internet Quiz Show pits teams of four against each other in a battle of wits, ingenuity, and speed. Jon Orwant hosts this fun filled fact hunt where knowledge of Internet technology and culture is put to the test.

The registration for the quiz show is closed. We've found a few good hackers to participate once again this year! Thanks to everyone who submitted. Team and participant names will be posted in the near future.

A Conversation with Rob Glaser

Wednesday Afternoon in the Lunch Tent

Curious about RealNetworks Helix Initiative? OSCon is the place to get all the answers. Rob Glaser, CEO of RealNetworks, visits OSCon on Wednesday, July 24 to discuss details of this "collaborative effort between RealNetworks, independent developers, and leading companies to create and extend the Helix DNA™ platform, the first open and comprehensive platform for digital media delivery."

Come to the banquet tent during lunch to hear a chat between Glaser and Tim O'Reilly, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

If you're still hungry for more info after this lunchtime presentation, stop by the RealNetwork information table during Wednesday evening's Musical Mixer, their booth in the exhibit hall on Wednesday and Thursday, and their Birds of a Feather session on Thursday evening from 7:00-8:00 p.m.

Quake 3 Arena LAN Party

Quake III Arena Thursday, 8 - 11pm
Come rub elbows with the best programmers on earth and simultaneously destroy them in Quake!

15 gaming class computers will be networked together as the base of a killer Quake 3 Arena fragging. The gaming network will have extra ports for you to connect to. Bring your LAN system (or just your laptop) and plug in for the fun. Wireless will be available too, of course. If you want to be a part of the fragging fun on your own computer, remember to bring your licensed copy of Quake 3 Arena to the party.

Open to all OSCON attendees and participants, the LAN Party will be located in Quinn's Sports Bar, off of the main lobby of the East Tower of the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. The bar will be open for your drinking pleasure.
