The invitation-only conference will focus on the most innovative Internet business and technology developments by industry leaders and influencers spanning the technology, Internet and service industries. Web 2.0 Conference will take place October 5-7, 2004 at Hotel Nikko in San Francisco. The theme for the 2004 Web 2.0 Conference is “The Web as Platform,” reflecting the emergence of the Internet as a platform by extending applications across the Web, enabling a new generation of services and business opportunities. This represents the first in a series of events that will focus on next-generation Internet applications and how the Web’s leading businesses have gained extraordinary success by leveraging Web development in their own business practices. “Despite the growing pains of the past three years, the Internet industry never went away, and it has continued to innovate and invent,” said John Battelle, Web 2.0 Program Chair. “This conference will be the meeting ground for the core ‘business geek’ community responsible for Internet business innovation, bringing together the right people, at the right time, in the right context.” Attendees will include a blend of entrepreneurial innovators in the Internet economy space along with technologists, senior-level executives at large companies, financiers and analysts who understand the importance of Internet-based innovation on traditional business models. Web 2.0 Conference will also feature a lively cross section of one-on-one interviews; keynote-level talks; issue-driven panels; and short, high-impact presentations, all of which will include audience participation and Q&A sessions. This three day event of networking, discussion and debate will offer a combination of workshops and sessions that will explore the full spectrum of Internet industry issues, as seen through the prism of the Web as a platform. After one full day of in-depth workshops, Program Chair John Battelle and O'Reilly Media, Inc.
